Journalist

Alma Beauvais is a reporter and freelance fact-checker based in New York City. She holds a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.

With a passion for accurate and considerate reporting, Alma’s relevant interests lie in stories about public health, women’s rights, reproductive rights, and education. She has written about her home country of Haiti as a contributing writer for the Pulitzer Center and The Haitian Times. Her work has also appeared in The Trace, The Nation, The Miami Herald, Columbia News Service, The West Georgian, and The Wolf Internet Radio. She has fact-checked numerous book chapters, as well as pieces for The Atavist magazine, The Baffler, Type Investigations and Hell Gate, The Week Magazine, and The Nation.

After obtaining her master’s degree in May 2022, Alma interned at the Miami Herald during the summer of 2022 and The Nation Magazine from January to June 2023. She then worked as a desk assistant at WCBS 880 News. Now, as The Trace’s first-ever editorial assistant, Alma helps the team stay organized.

Prior to her postgraduate education, Alma attended Paris-Sorbonne University in France, where she studied Applied Foreign Languages in English and Spanish. She moved permanently to the U.S. in 2017 and transferred to the University of West Georgia, where she graduated Summa Cum Laude in December 2020 with the highest honors in Mass Communications, specializing in Convergence Journalism.

During her undergraduate studies, Alma gained experience in broadcast journalism and print by working as the news director for The Wolf Internet Radio, the school’s web radio station. She produced and hosted a podcast called "The Rendezvous."

Alma speaks French, Creole, and English.
